Cavitation occurs when fluid pressure drops below its vapor pressure, forming bubbles that can collapse and damage the pump. By separating the system fluid from the return fluid with a piston or bladder, aircraft pressurized reservoir designs apply system pressure to the return fluid and keep it above vapor pressure—eliminating the risk of cavitation.

PDI’s aircraft hydraulic reservoirs also accommodate system volume changes as different components activate and consume fluid. Volume shifts can result from temperature changes or actuator movement.
